You are welcome to class two of learning Edo language. In class one, we discussed briefly “TWINS ALPHABETS” which are: GB, GH, KP, KH, MW, RH, VB. With determination and diligent effort, you can pronounce these twins alphabets correctly. If you can do that, there will be no Edo word you cannot pronounce correctly.

During the Nigerian civil war, we lost many of our Ibo brothers we wanted to save because of the twins alphabets. E.G. if you ask an Ibo man the name of a pot, he will call it “AHE” instead of “AKHE” in Edo language, that proves he is a none native.

The secret of pronouncing these twin alphabets correctly is to try to pronounce the two letters as one letter. Do not pronounce one of these letters and leave the other letter, like the case above. If you call a pot “AHE” instead of “AKHE” or “AKE” instead of “AKHE” you only used one of the twin letters “KH”. If you say “AKE” you use only “K” and leave “H”. If you say “AHE” you only use “H” and leave “K”. You must pronounce any twin letter as one letter.

Let us practice the pronunciation of these words with keen interest and determination.
